It’s funny how a moment can occur and things seem to come together. So many people are working on ideas and thinking about similar things…
About 2 years ago I came across a video on the internets about Witness. That moment when I first the video, and I’m trying to find it, made me really think about what it means to participate and engage with digital technologies in such a was as to move beyond righteous indignation to
action.
I have always thought I was at least aware of being in a comfort zone. But increasingly, the more I work with people who engaging in advocacy work and community outreach programs and digital technology, the more I see that I need to really to think about the ethical, civic and social-moral responsibilities that I have while engaging with technology.
What am I doing with these technologies? Am I just doing a “show and tell”? Am I just showing the latest ‘cool’ technological device/software and telling my students (who are going to be teachers) that the should be on board and with it? Am I teaching about the complexity of what it means to take action?
