Convergence…

If I’m going to have any kind of decent blog, I need to do it more than once every month and a half. That being said, I’m not going to focus on what I haven’t done but look forward to things that are interesting to me and that are on my mind right now.

I think what interests me right now is the sheer volume of events that are going on around the world. This is not a revelation. I know. I guess what I’m interested in is how the conversations and ideas that I seem to bumping into as I talk with people and try to get out of my head [read: stop navel gazing around my research and ideas] are, for lack of a better word, converging. I was thinking I could write a long little essay on the things I’m thinking/reading but bullet points seem to be the best way to work things our right now.

“Digital Disability”

This is a term that Goggin and Newell coined in their book 2003 Digital Disability: The Social Construction of Disability in Media. I really like this book because it talks about issues around the relationships between access, disability rights, media, technology, agency and policy [among other things]. It re-frames the ‘disability as deficit’ motif that is so pervasive whenever technology and disability are discussed in the same breath.

Gotta go…it’s Thanksgiving up here in Canada…time for dinner….more soon
